Proverbs 1, Text, Music, and recurrence

Here is first the music. Verse 10 stands out as without atenach (no mid verse rest). The mode and melody are very similar to many Psalms. Verses 11, 22 and 23 (showing as tricola) have an ole veyored cadence on the supertonic.

In spite of recurrence patterns possibly linking verses 16 to 33 (see below), the chapter divides reasonably into introductory material, 1-9, a warning and advice on who not to comply with, 10-19, and the call of shrewdness (or wisdom) from 20-33.

Proverbs 1 Fn Min Max Syll
1 g The proverbs of Solomon, child of David,
king of Israel:
3e 4B 8
5
2 To know wisdom and chastening,
to discern the promises of discernment,
3e 4B 8
7
3 g to lay hold of the chastening of insight,
righteousness, and judgment, and uprightness,
3e 4B 7
9
4 to give to the simple, craftiness,
to a youth, knowledge and intention.
3e 4B 7
8
5 One who is wise will hear and will add to receiving,
and one who is understanding will acquire margins,
3e 4B 9
8
6 To discern a proverb and its insinuation,
the words of the shrewd and their riddles.
3e 4B 8
9
7 The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge.
The foolish have contempt for wisdom and chastening.
3e 4B 8
11
8 Hear, my child, your father's chastening,
and do not abandon your mother's instruction.
3e 4B 9
9
9 C because they are a garland of graciousness for your head,
and a necklace for your gullet.
3e 4C 9
10
10 My child, if sinners seduce you do not comply. 3e 3f 13
11 If they say, Come on with us.
We will lurk for blood.
We treasure the innocent for nothing.
3d 4B 8
5
8
12 g We will swallow them up as the grave, alive,
and complete, as those who descend to a pit.
3e 4B 7
7
13 All precious value we will find.
We will fill our houses with spoil.
3e 4B 6
8
14 g Let your lot fall among us.
One cup there will be for us all.
3e 4B 9
9
15 My child, do not walk their way.
Withhold your foot from their pathways.
3e 4B 10
9
16 B Because their feet race to evil,
and they rush headlong to pour out blood.
3e 4B 9
7
17 Because for nothing the net is sifted,
in the eyes of any owner of a wing.
3e 4B 8
8
18 g And they lie in wait for blood,
treasuring themselves.
3e 4B 9
7
19 ~ So are the paths of all seeking gain for gain.
It takes over the self in its owner.
3e 4B 9
9
20 g Shrewdness shouts outside.
In the plazas she gives her voice.
3e 4B 7
7
21 At the head of murmurings she calls.
At the opening of the gates of the city she says what is hers to say.
3e 3g 7
14
22 How long, simpletons, will you love simplicity,
and scorners find their scorning attractive,
and dullards hate knowledge?
3e 4B 12
9
7
23 Return to my corrections.
Behold, I will ferment my spirit for you.
I will make known my words with you.
3e 4C 7
9
8
24 B Though I call, yet you would not,
I stretch out my hand, and there is none to pay attention.
3e 4B 9
9
25 But you have neglected all my advice,
and my correction you would not consent to.
3e 4B 8
8
26 Furthermore, I myself will laugh in your misfortune.
I will deride when your dread comes.
3e 4B 8
7
27 When your dread comes as ruin, and your misfortune as a storm-wind arrives,
when trouble and distress come upon you,
3e 4C 17
10
28 B then you will call me and I will fail to answer,
you will seek me early and fail to find me.
3e 4B 10
11
29 g In that they hated knowledge,
and the fear of Yahweh they did not chose,
3e 4B 7
10
30 they would not consent to my advice,
they spurned all my correction,
3e 4A 6
7
31 so let them eat from the fruit of their way,
and from their own conspiracies, let them be satisfied.
3e 4B 7
10
32 C For the returning of simpletons will slay them,
and the ease of dullards.
3e 4C 10
9
33 But one who hears me will dwell in trust,
and be without a care from dread of evil.
3e 4B 9

Selected recurring roots excluding על,יהוה,אלוה,כּי,אל,אתּ and those roots that recur only twice. Note the pattern of invitation and the movement from child to the final dread. (My default table shows exactly 40 recurring roots. Too many to see comfortably.) You can also see from this table that I will use controlled synonyms: so shrewdness and wisdom (חכּםּ), discernment and understanding (בּיןּ) in my readings are equivalent words - though our perception of them might vary depending on our mood.
