Qohelet 7

The end of this chapter is disappointing. The preacher loses the edge of the sword. Perhaps I should not believe him/her anyway. The Qohelet's name is besmirched slightly.

The last 6 verses are distinguished by a pair of recurring words that do not appear in the first 23 verses.

Qohelet 7 Fn Min Max Syll
1 f A good name may be compared with good oil,
and the day of death with the day it was born.
3e 4B 6
10
2 ~ Better to walk to a house of lament than to walk to a house of parties, in that such is the conclusion of every earthling,
and one who lives will "take it to heart".
3e 4B 24
8
3 f Good is grief over laughter,
for in a facial grimace a heart is pleased.
3e 4A 5
9
4 C The heart of the shrewd is in the house of lament, and the heart of dullards are in the house of gladness. 3e 4C 17
5 ~ It is good to hear the rebuke of the shrewd,
over one's hearing of the song of dullards.
3e 4B 9
9
6 B For as the crackling of the prickles under the frying pan, so is the laughter of the dullard.
And even this is futility.
3e 4C 15
5
7 f For oppression maddens the shrewd,
and graft makes a heart perish.
3e 4B 9
8
8 d Good is a thing's result over its beginning.
Good is a patient spirit over a haughty spirit.
3d 4A 10
9
9 Do not let grief vex your spirit,
for grief reposes in the embrace of dullards.
3e 4B 10
11
10 Do not say, How is it that the former days were better than these?
For it is not from shrewdness that you beg about this.
3d 4C 21
10
11 Shrewdness is good with an inheritance,
when it remains for those that see the sun.
3e 4A 8
9
12 d For in the shadow of shrewdness, is in the shadow of silver,
and what remains of knowledge is shrewdness. She keeps her husband alive.
3d 4B 11
15
13 See the deed of this God,
for who can straighten what he subverts?
3e 4C 10
12
14 C In a good day, be into good and in a day of evil, see:
this God has made even this set against that, concerning things that the earthling will not find out whatever is after it.
3c 4C 14
29
15 All this I have seen in the days of my futility.
Here is a righteous one perished in its righteousness and here is a wicked one prolonged in its evil.
3e 4C 10
19
16 Do not be to excess a righteous one, and do without surplus shrewdness.
Why be desolate?
3e 4C 14
5
17 Do not be too much wicked and do not be silly.
Why die when it is not your time?
3e 4B 11
9
18 C It is good that you hold fast in this, and even from that let not your hand rest,
for the one fearing God emerges from them all.
3e 4C 19
11
19 Shrewdness strengthens the shrewd,
over ten who are domineering in the city.
3e 4B 8
13
20 B For there is no righteous earthling in the earth,
that does good and does not sin.
3e 4B 9
11
21 C Even of all the things that are spoken, do not permit into your heart,
that you not hear your servant slight you.
3e 4C 18
13
22 d For even your many pulsed heart knows,
that even you have slighted others.
3d 4B 12
11
23 All this I have proved in shrewdness.
I said, I will be shrewd, but it was far from me.
3e 4B 8
14
24 g What is that is so distant?
and valley inscrutable, who will find it?
3e 4A 6
10
25 ~ I myself circled, and my heart, to know and explore and seek shrewdness and reckoning,
and to know wickedness, folly and silliness and boasting.
3e 4C 22
15
26 and I myself found more bitter than death, the woman, that she, fortress and bans are her heart, bonds her hands.
Good in the presence of God is escape from her, but a sinner is caught by her.
3c 4C 31
20
27 See, this I have found, she, Qohelet, said,
one by one to find out reckoning,
3e 4B 11
9
28 that yet my self seeks and I have not found.
An earthling one of a thousand I have found, and a woman in all these I have not found.
3d 4C 12
21
29 Alone, see, this I have found, that this God has made the earthling upright,
but they seek many reckonings.
