Job 1 and 2 - the framing story

The frame of Job is a story concerning the interaction of God with the accuser while the council in heaven is in session. We are all present and we are quite capable of playing the role of accuser (a.k.a.Satan).

If you read my reading with another translation next to you, you may begin to see why I am doing this exercise. (Updated, also shows min and max reciting notes.)

Job 1 Fn Min Max Syll
1 d A man there was in the land of Uz, Job his name.
And he was, the man, this very one, complete and upright and he fears God and turns aside from evil.

2 And there were born to him seven sons and three daughters. 3d 3g 14
3 And these were his acquisitions: seven thousand sheep and three thousand camels and five hundred pair of oxen and five hundred she-donkeys and a very abundant staff of servants.
And so it was the man, this very one, who was great among all the children of the east.

13
4 And his sons used to do house parties,
each man on his day.
And they sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to imbibe with them.

22
5 And it would be that after the striking off of party days, Job would send and sanctify them rising early in the morning to offer up burnt offerings for all of them for Job said, Perhaps my sons have sinned and blessed God in their hearts.
Thus did Job every day. P

12
6 Then the day happened when the children of God came and presented themselves before Yahweh.
And the accuser also came among them.
3e 4B 20
10
7 And Yahweh said to the accuser, Where are you coming from?
And the accuser answered Yahweh, saying, Roving on the earth and walking about it.
3c 4C 13
23
8 and Yahweh said to the accuser, Have you set out in your heart concerning my servant Job?
For there is none like him in the earth, complete and upright, fearing God and turning aside from evil.
3c 4C 19
22
9 And the accuser answered Yahweh, saying,
Is it for nothing that Job fears God?
3c 4A 12
10
10 Have you not entwined about him and about his house and about all that he has on every side?
For all that he does with his hands you have blessed and his acquisitions are breaking out in the earth.
3c 4C 22
17
11 However, extend, if you will, your hand and touch all that he has.
Will he not in your face bless you?
3e 4B 15
11
12 And Yahweh said to the accuser, Behold, all that he has is in your hand,
but on him do not extend your hand.
So the accuser came forth from the presence of Yahweh.

12
13 And it happens today.
His sons and his daughters were eating and imbibing wine in the house of their firstborn brother.

14 And a messenger came to Job, saying,
The oxen were ploughing and the donkeys grazing at their hand...

And there escaped but I, only I to tell you.

16 B While this one was speaking this other one came, saying, The fire of God fell from heaven and kindled the sheep and the lads and devoured them.
And there escaped but I, only I, to tell you.
3c 4B 33
14

17 B While this one was speaking, yet this other one came, saying, Chaldeans set up three gangs and pillaged the camels and took them away and they struck the lads with the edge of the sword.
And there escaped but I, only I to tell you.

18 C Even as this one was yet speaking, yet this other came and he said,
Your sons and your daughters were eating and imbibing wine in the house of their firstborn brother...

19 And behold a great wind came from beyond the wilderness and touched the four corners of the house and it fell on the lads and they died.
And there escaped but I, only I to tell you.
3c 4B 38
14

20 Then Job arose and ripped his mantle and sheared his head,
and he fell earthward and prostrated himself.

Let the name of Yahweh be blessed.
