Zephaniah 3

Yes, this is Zephaniah 3 - hot out of the translator's strange mind. The discipline I have imposed on the Psalms has been imposed here. I have also recently imposed it on Jonah and Ruth, and will shortly impose it onto Job, the Song, Lamentations (the last 3 chapters) and Qohelet. That's a couple of month's work I think. [Hah! these took another 18 months to revise.] During this time I will also see the music for these books. Three points of view - word root repetition, music, and semantic domain. The first is objective, the second subject to computer-driven coded rules, and the third somewhat subjective, and lagging, and always under refinement as new data is uncovered.

But here is Zephaniah. The prophet is very positive in the third chapter. I realize I have been provocative occasionally. I don't trust some of the guesses that are in the past, like booty or spoil for עד, a word usually associated with forever or just a preposition, to/until. Anyway, while it may be necessary to adjust this elsewhere or later, I didn't see it as needed here.

Compare the use of prodigality to the psalms where it might be rendered prodigality or wantonness (both are extremes of a sort). In this chapter, it is noted that the human is abusing its prodigality. Could this not be read as abuse of the prodigality of creation, as appropriate to our time?

Where there is a carriage return (surely an anachronism) in the middle of a verse or sentence, that marks the atenach, or the rest point on the subdominant in the music. In most cases, it is a rest where one might expect it.

The music is in the usual place though my Google drive is a bit of a mess - lots of experimental and historical bits.

In Yahweh she did not trust. To her God she did not draw near.

From morning to morning his judgment gives light. He does not lag behind, but an unjust one does not know to be ashamed.

6 I have cut off nations. Their pinnacles are desolate. I have made their streets a desert. Nary a one passes by.
Laid waste are their cities, nary a person, without inhabitant.

Nevertheless they were insistent. They destroyed all their prodigality.

8 Therefore you tarry for me, this is an oracle of Yahweh, to the day of my arising for ever.
For my judgment is to gather nations, to collect kingdoms, to pour out on them my indignation, all my fierce anger, for in the fire of my jealousy, all the earth will be devoured.

to call, all of them, in the name of Yahweh, to serve with one insistence.
