Jeremiah 36

I just realized that I have axes to grind. First was my emphasis on what is loosely termed concordance. (Concordance has degrees of impossibility). Now I am biased toward the music. (I have a few additional biases.)

So what do I do with the verb to call?
קרא - encounter, acclaim, call, converge, convoke, proclaim, query (for acrostics), recite.

I now have so many choices that I can paint this word in a particular section of text! And none of these choices conflicts with what I have chosen elsewhere for a different Hebrew root in the same domain. For the moment, this word is in my domain of Engagement-Appeal. There are 14 roots in it. Appeal is (at the moment) one of about 17 sub-domains of Engagement. These govern a little less than 2500 roots, which in turn form about 37,000 words of the puzzle - just over 10%).

Ouch - not going any further for the moment, but this simple two level hierarchy over the roots will allow for quite a bit of critical analysis of my gloss choices when the time comes. Roots may appear in multiple domains for homonyms and for some non-homonym uses. There you have it - every word has gone from potential woodenness to potential nuance. The axe sharpens. And you will see where I have revealed a relaxing of my rigid rules.)

וַיַּגֵּ֤ד לָהֶם֙ מִכָ֔יְהוּ אֵ֥ת כָּל־הַדְּבָרִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר שָׁמֵ֑עַ בִּקְרֹ֥א בָר֛וּךְ בַּסֵּ֖פֶר בְּאָזְנֵ֥י הָעָֽם	13		Then Mikaiah made evident to them all the things that he heard, in the recitation of Baruch in the book, in the ears of the people.	3d	4C	18 12
וַיִּשְׁלְח֨וּ כָל־הַשָּׂרִ֜ים אֶל־בָּר֗וּךְ אֶת־יְהוּדִ֡י בֶּן־נְ֠תַנְיָהוּ בֶּן־שֶׁלֶמְיָ֣הוּ בֶן־כּוּשִׁי֮ לֵאמֹר֒ הַמְּגִלָּ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר קָרָ֤אתָ בָּהּ֙ בְּאָזְנֵ֣י הָעָ֔ם קָחֶ֥נָּה בְיָדְךָ֖ וָלֵ֑ךְ וַ֠יִּקַּח בָּר֨וּךְ בֶּן־נֵרִיָּ֤הוּ אֶת־הַמְּגִלָּה֙ בְּיָד֔וֹ וַיָּבֹ֖א אֲלֵיהֶֽם	14		And all the nobles sent Jehudi, child of Nathaniah, child of Shelemyah, child of Cushi, to Baruch, saying, The scroll that you recited through in the ears of the people, take in your hand and come. And Baruch child of Neriah took the scroll in his hand, and complied with them.	3e	4C	52 23
וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ אֵלָ֔יו שֵׁ֣ב נָ֔א וּקְרָאֶ֖נָּה בְּאָזְנֵ֑ינוּ וַיִּקְרָ֥א בָר֖וּךְ בְּאָזְנֵיהֶֽם	15		And they said to him, Sit, if you will, and recite it in our ears. And Baruch recited in their ears.	3e	4B	15 9

וְאֶ֨ת־בָּר֔וּךְ שָׁאֲל֖וּ לֵאמֹ֑ר הַגֶּד־נָ֣א לָ֔נוּ אֵ֗יךְ כָּתַ֛בְתָּ אֶת־כָּל־הַדְּבָרִ֥ים הָאֵ֖לֶּה מִפִּֽיו	17		And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us, if you will, how you have written all these words from his mouth.	3d	4B	9 19
וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לָהֶם֙ בָּר֔וּךְ מִפִּיו֙ יִקְרָ֣א אֵלַ֔י אֵ֥ת כָּל־הַדְּבָרִ֖ים הָאֵ֑לֶּה וַאֲנִ֛י כֹּתֵ֥ב עַל־הַסֵּ֖פֶר בַּדְּיֽוֹ	18		And Baruch said to them, From his mouth he recited to me all these words, and I wrote in the book with ink.	3d	4C	21 11
וַיֹּאמְר֤וּ הַשָּׂרִים֙ אֶל־בָּר֔וּךְ לֵ֥ךְ הִסָּתֵ֖ר אַתָּ֣ה וְיִרְמְיָ֑הוּ וְאִ֥ישׁ אַל־יֵדַ֖ע אֵיפֹ֥ה אַתֶּֽם	19		And the nobles said to Baruch, For yourself, hide. You and Jeremiah, and let no person know where you are.	3e	4C	20 9
וַיָּבֹ֤אוּ אֶל־הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ חָצֵ֔רָה וְאֶת־הַמְּגִלָּ֣ה הִפְקִ֔דוּ בְּלִשְׁכַּ֖ת אֱלִישָׁמָ֣ע הַסֹּפֵ֑ר וַיַּגִּ֙ידוּ֙ בְּאָזְנֵ֣י הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ אֵ֖ת כָּל־הַדְּבָרִֽים	20		And they came to the king toward the court, and the scroll they entrusted to the chamber of Elishama, the secretary. And they announced all the words in the ears of the king.	3e	4C	28 15
וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ אֶת־יְהוּדִ֗י לָקַ֙חַת֙ אֶת־הַמְּגִלָּ֔ה וַיִּ֨קָּחֶ֔הָ מִלִּשְׁכַּ֖ת אֱלִישָׁמָ֣ע הַסֹּפֵ֑ר וַיִּקְרָאֶ֤הָ יְהוּדִי֙ בְּאָזְנֵ֣י הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וּבְאָזְנֵי֙ כָּל־הַשָּׂרִ֔ים הָעֹמְדִ֖ים מֵעַ֥ל הַמֶּֽלֶךְ	21		And the king sent Jehudi to receive the scroll, and he took it from the chamber of Elishama, the secretary, and Jehudi recited it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the nobles standing beside the king.	3e	4C	32 29
וְהַמֶּ֗לֶךְ יוֹשֵׁב֙ בֵּ֣ית הַחֹ֔רֶף בַּחֹ֖דֶשׁ הַתְּשִׁיעִ֑י וְאֶת־הָאָ֖ח לְפָנָ֥יו מְבֹעָֽרֶת	22		And the king sat in the autumn-house in the ninth new moon, and the hearth before him was kindled.	3e	4B	16 11
וַיְהִ֣י ׀ כִּקְר֣וֹא יְהוּדִ֗י שָׁלֹ֣שׁ דְּלָתוֹת֮ וְאַרְבָּעָה֒ יִֽקְרָעֶ֙הָ֙ בְּתַ֣עַר הַסֹּפֵ֔ר וְהַשְׁלֵ֕ךְ אֶל־הָאֵ֖שׁ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אֶל־הָאָ֑ח עַד־תֹּם֙ כָּל־הַמְּגִלָּ֔ה עַל־הָאֵ֖שׁ אֲשֶׁ֥ר עַל־הָאָֽח	23		And it happened as Jehudi recited three columns, or four, he ripped the book with a razor, and he flung into the fire that was in the hearth, until all the scroll was completely in the fire that was on the hearth.	3e	4B	37 14
וְלֹ֣א פָחֲד֔וּ וְלֹ֥א קָרְע֖וּ אֶת־בִּגְדֵיהֶ֑ם הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ וְכָל־עֲבָדָ֔יו הַשֹּׁ֣מְעִ֔ים אֵ֥ת כָּל־הַדְּבָרִ֖ים הָאֵֽלֶּה	24		And they were not in dread, and they did not rip their garments, the king, and all his servants who were hearing all these words.	3e	4B	13 19
וְגַם֩ אֶלְנָתָ֨ן וּדְלָיָ֤הוּ וּגְמַרְיָ֙הוּ֙ הִפְגִּ֣עוּ בַמֶּ֔לֶךְ לְבִלְתִּ֥י שְׂרֹ֖ף אֶת־הַמְּגִלָּ֑ה וְלֹ֥א שָׁמַ֖ע אֲלֵיהֶֽם	25		And moreover, Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had intervened with the king not to incinerate the scroll, but he did not pay heed to them.	3e	4C	28 7
וַיְצַוֶּ֣ה הַ֠מֶּלֶךְ אֶת־יְרַחְמְאֵ֨ל בֶּן־הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ וְאֶת־שְׂרָיָ֣הוּ בֶן־עַזְרִיאֵ֗ל וְאֶת־שֶֽׁלֶמְיָ֙הוּ֙ בֶּֽן־עַבְדְּאֵ֔ל לָקַ֙חַת֙ אֶת־בָּר֣וּךְ הַסֹּפֵ֔ר וְאֵ֖ת יִרְמְיָ֣הוּ הַנָּבִ֑יא וַיַּסְתִּרֵ֖ם יְהוָֽה	26		And the king commanded Jerahmeel child of Hammelech, and Saraiah child of Azriel, and Shelemyah child of Abdiel, to take Baruch, the secretary, and Jeremiah the prophet, but Yahweh had hidden them.	3e	4B	53 6
וַיְהִ֥י דְבַר־יְהוָ֖ה אֶֽל־יִרְמְיָ֑הוּ אַחֲרֵ֣י ׀ שְׂרֹ֣ף הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ אֶת־הַמְּגִלָּה֙ וְאֶת־הַדְּבָרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֨ר כָּתַ֥ב בָּר֛וּךְ מִפִּ֥י יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ לֵאמֹֽר	27		And the word of Yahweh happened to Jeremiah, after the king had incinerated the scroll and the matters that Baruch wrote from the mandate of Jeremiah, saying,	3d	4B	11 31
שׁ֥וּב קַח־לְךָ֖ מְגִלָּ֣ה אַחֶ֑רֶת וּכְתֹ֣ב עָלֶ֗יהָ אֵ֤ת כָּל־הַדְּבָרִים֙ הָרִ֣אשֹׁנִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר הָי֗וּ עַל־הַמְּגִלָּה֙ הָרִ֣אשֹׁנָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר שָׂרַ֖ף יְהוֹיָקִ֥ים מֶֽלֶךְ־יְהוּדָֽה	28	f	Return, take for yourself another scroll, and write on it all the former words that were upon the first scroll that Jehoiachim king of Judah incinerated.	3e	4C	10 39
וְעַל־יְהוֹיָקִ֤ים מֶֽלֶךְ־יְהוּדָה֙ תֹּאמַ֔ר כֹּ֖ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֑ה אַ֠תָּה שָׂרַ֜פְתָּ אֶת־הַמְּגִלָּ֤ה הַזֹּאת֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר מַדּוּעַ֩ כָּתַ֨בְתָּ עָלֶ֜יהָ לֵאמֹ֗ר בֹּֽא־יָב֤וֹא מֶֽלֶךְ־בָּבֶל֙ וְהִשְׁחִית֙ אֶת־הָאָ֣רֶץ הַזֹּ֔את וְהִשְׁבִּ֥ית מִמֶּ֖נָּה אָדָ֥ם וּבְהֵמָֽה	29		And to Jehoiachim, king of Judah, you will say, Thus says Yahweh, You, yourself have incinerated this scroll, saying, For what purpose have you written on it to say, Coming, coming is the king of Babel, and he will destroy this land and make human and beast cease from it.	3e	4C	18 50
לָכֵ֞ן כֹּֽה־אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֗ה עַל־יְהֽוֹיָקִים֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֔ה לֹא־יִֽהְיֶה־לּ֥וֹ יוֹשֵׁ֖ב עַל־כִּסֵּ֣א דָוִ֑ד וְנִבְלָתוֹ֙ תִּֽהְיֶ֣ה מֻשְׁלֶ֔כֶת לַחֹ֥רֶב בַּיּ֖וֹם וְלַקֶּ֥רַח בַּלָּֽיְלָה	30		Therefore thus says Yahweh against Jehoiachim, king of Judah, There will not be for him, one to sit on the throne of David, and his corpse will be flung to the desert in the day, and to the ice in the night.	3e	4B	28 21
וּפָקַדְתִּ֨י עָלָ֧יו וְעַל־זַרְע֛וֹ וְעַל־עֲבָדָ֖יו אֶת־עֲוֺנָ֑ם וְהֵבֵאתִ֣י עֲ֠לֵיהֶם וְעַל־יֹשְׁבֵ֨י יְרוּשָׁלִַ֜ם וְאֶל־אִ֣ישׁ יְהוּדָ֗ה אֵ֧ת כָּל־הָרָעָ֛ה אֲשֶׁר־דִּבַּ֥רְתִּי אֲלֵיהֶ֖ם וְלֹ֥א שָׁמֵֽעוּ	31		And I will visit upon him, and upon his seed, and upon his servants, their iniquity, and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to anyone of Judah, all the evil that I have spoken to them and they did not hear.	3c	4B	19 39
וְיִרְמְיָ֜הוּ לָקַ֣ח ׀ מְגִלָּ֣ה אַחֶ֗רֶת וַֽיִּתְּנָהּ֮ אֶל־בָּר֣וּךְ בֶּן־נֵרִיָּהוּ֮ הַסֹּפֵר֒ וַיִּכְתֹּ֤ב עָלֶ֙יהָ֙ מִפִּ֣י יִרְמְיָ֔הוּ אֵ֚ת כָּל־דִּבְרֵ֣י הַסֵּ֔פֶר אֲשֶׁ֥ר שָׂרַ֛ף יְהוֹיָקִ֥ים מֶֽלֶךְ־יְהוּדָ֖ה בָּאֵ֑שׁ וְע֨וֹד נוֹסַ֧ף עֲלֵיהֶ֛ם דְּבָרִ֥ים רַבִּ֖ים כָּהֵֽמָּה	32		And Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to Baruch, child of Neriah, the secretary, and he wrote on it, from the mandate of Jeremiah, all the words of the book that Jehoiachim king of Judah incinerated in the fire.
