Esther 3

This is as plain as can be. Verse 10-11 reminds me of Job being delivered into the hand of the Accuser. The council of the gods in this case is lower than we might imagine the picture in Job, but perhaps we should not think this. Perhaps we should not capitalize in our minds the Elohim of Job and recognize that even Yahweh is in our council invisibly. And we are good at accusing.

It is good that the city of Shushan, named after the lilies, was perplexed. Love is indeed perplexed by prejudice.

1 After things these the king Ahasuerus promoted Haman child of Hammedatha the Agagite and lifted him up.
And set his throne above all the nobility that were with him.

2 And all the servants of the king that were at the gate of the king bowed down and prostrated themselves to Haman, for so the king had commanded for him.
But Mordecai did not bow down nor did he prostrate himself.

13
3 And the servants of the king, that were at the gate of the king, said to Mordecai,
For what purpose are you bypassing the commandments of the king?

13
4 And it happened when they talked to him day by day, but he did not pay heed to them,
so they told Haman to see whether the words of Mordecai would stand, for he had made it clear to them that he is a Judean.
3e 4C 17
28
5 But Haman saw that there was no bowing down from Mordecai or prostration to him,
and Haman was full of heat.
3e 4B 18
8
6 And it was despicable in his eyes to reach out a hand against Mordecai alone, for they had made clear to him the people of Mordecai.
So Haman sought to exterminate all the Judeans that were in all the kingdoms of Ahasuerus with Mordecai.

27

7 In the first new moon (this is the month of Nisan) in the twelfth year of the king Ahasuerus,
they let fall Pur (this is the dice) before Haman from day to day and from month to the twelfth month (this is the month of Adar).
3c 4C 24
31
8 And Haman said to the king Ahasuerus, There is this one people scattered and separate from the peoples in all the provinces of your kingdom.
And their dictates are varying from all people, and the dictates of the king they are not undertaking, so for the king it is not considered equal to allow them.

31
9 If to the king it is good, let it be written that they be eliminated.
Ten thousand talents of silver I will spend by the hand of those plying the lines of work, to bring to the depositories of the king.
3e 4B 12
30
10 And the king put aside his ring from off his hand,
and gave it to Haman, child of Hammedatha the Agagite, the adversary of the Judeans.
3c 4B 14
19
11 And the king said to Haman, The silver is given to you,
and the people, to do in him as is good in your eyes.
3e 4C 15
13
12 So the secretaries of the king were called out in the first new moon on its thirteenth day and they wrote everything that Haman commanded to the satraps of the king, and to the viceroys that were over province by province, and to nobility, people by people, province by province, according to its writing, people by people according to their tongue,
in the name of the king Ahasuerus it was written, and it was sealed with the ring of the king.
3e 4C 79
21
13 And correspondence was sent by the hand of the racers to all the provinces of the king to exterminate, to slay, and to eliminate all the Judeans, from youngster and to the elderly, little ones and women, in one day, on the thirteenth of the twelfth month, (this is the month of Adar)
and to take spoil of them, to loot.

14 The copy of the writing to be given as dictate in every province, by province, was disclosed to all the peoples,
that they should be eager for this day.
3e 4C 25
9
15 Racers came forth unrelentingly by the word of the king, and the dictate was given in Shushan, the temple precincts, and the king and Haman sat down to imbibe.
And the city Shushan was perplexed.
