Joel 2 the words

This is a republish of something I did - when was it - maybe 9 months ago. It was unreadable. So here it is readable.

I was going to make a small change - considering how to untangle a few locks of the 12, and I couldn't read the way I had done it those months back. I am trying to untangle the distinction between שׁאר and עתר. They are hopelessly intertwined in the old translations - left over, remnant, residue indiscriminately used for each. Maybe there's no distinction of meaning - but maybe not... (I don't always succeed in seeing the problems on the first pass.)

1 Sound a shophar in Zion and raise a shout on my holy hill. Let all inhabitants of the land shudder,
for the day of Yahweh comes, for it is near.

2 c A day of darkness and gloom, a day of cloud and dark turbulence. As dawn spreads over the hills,
a people abundant and numerous, such as has never been and after it will not be again for years, generation upon generation.
3c 4C 23
28
3 Fire devours in its presence and after it blazing flame.
As the garden of Eden is the land before it, and after it, a desolate wilderness. And even security, it will not be for it.
3e 4B 16
28
4 As the appearance of horses is its appearance,
and as cavalry, so they race.
3e 4A 8
8
5 B As the crackling of chariots over the tops of the hills they will skip. As the crackling of a flame of fire devouring stubble,
as a numerous people arranged for battle.
3e 4C 23
9
6 Before its face peoples writhe,
All faces collect pallor.
3e 4B 8
7
7 As the valiant they race, as warriors they climb a wall,
is and each on its way walks and none is deflected from its path.
3e 4C 18
16
8 And each its kin does not jostle. Valiant on the highway they walk.
And about let the javelin fall. They do not find their mark.
3d 4C 17
12
9 In the city they are shiftless. Upon the wall they race. On the houses they climb.
Through the windows they come like a thief.
3c 4B 17
11
10 In its presence earth shuddered, heavens quaked,
sun and moon were in mourning and stars gather in their illumination.
3e 4C 13
17
11 But Yahweh gives his voice before his force for his army is very abundant, for numerous is the one doing his word,
for great is the day of Yahweh and very fearful so who will abide it.
3c 4C 26
16
12 And even now, an oracle of Yahweh, Turn to me with all your heart,
and with fasting, and with weeping, and with wailing.
3e 4A 17
8
13 Rip your heart and not your garments and turn to Yahweh your God,
for gracious and compassionate is he, slow to anger and abundant in kindness, and sighs over evil.
3e 4C 21
21
14 f Who knows? He may turn and sigh,
and after it have a residue of a blessing, a gift and libation of Yahweh your God.
3e 4C 9
21
15 Sound a shophar in Zion.
Sanctify a fast. Call a conclave.
3e 4A 7
8
16 Gather the people. Sanctify the congregation. Collect the elders. Gather babies and those who suckle at the breasts.
Let bridegroom emerge from his room and daughter-in-law from her canopy.
3e 4C 23
14

17 C Between the porch and the altar, let the priests weep, the ministers of Yahweh,
and let them say, Spare your people, Yahweh and do not give your legacy to reproach, that nations should govern in them. They will say among the peoples, Where is their God?
3c 4C 20
40
18 And Yahweh will be jealous for his land,
and he will have pity on his people.
3e 4A 8
6
19 And Yahweh answered and he said to his people, Behold me, I will send for you the grain, and the new wine, and the clarified oil, and you will be satisfied with it.
And I will not give you any more a reproach among the nations.

20 And I will make the northerners far off from you and I will push them to an arid land, and a desolation, its face to the eastern sea and its rear end to the other sea,
and its stink will go up and its stench will go up for its exaggerated deeds.
3e 4B 43
18
21 Do not fear, O humus.
Rejoice and be glad, for exaggerated are the deeds of Yahweh.
3e 4B 6
13

22 Do not fear, O beasts of the field, for verdant are the haunts of the wilderness,
for a tree bears its fruit. Fig tree and vine give their wealth.
3e 4B 15
16

23 And the children of Zion rejoice and are glad in Yahweh your God for he gives for you the instructor for righteousness,
and he makes showers descend for you, instructor and ultimate maturity from the beginning.
3d 4C 26
15
24 And the threshing-floors will be full of corn,
and the casks will be bountiful with new wine and the clarified oil.
3e 4A 8
12
25 And I will repay you the years that the locust ate, the pygmy, and the caterpillar and the nymph,
my great force which I sent among you.
3e 4C 28
12
26 And you will eat your fill and be sated and you will praise the name of Yahweh your God,
who has dealt wonderfully with you, and my people will never be ashamed.
3e 4C 32
9
27 And you will know for I, myself, Yahweh, your God, am in close combat with Israel and there is no one else,
and my people will never be ashamed. S
